Do you like sweets? And your intestines are not very: scientists from Yale University (USA) found out that sugar interferes with the normal functioning of the protein, which is necessary for the reproduction of intestinal microflora, affecting normal weight and human health.
Why sugar is bad for health?
In the past few decades, sugar consumption per capita has increased significantly throughout the world. Unfortunately, the abundance of sweet food does not make us healthier, and American scientists have found another proof of this. Intestinal microflora plays a key role in human health, and its composition depends on the diet. It turned out that sugar can adversely affect the microflora, changing its species composition.
American researchers have studied the effect of a high glucose and fructose diet on the content of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron bacteria in mice - this commensal symbiote lives in the intestines of people and many animals. With an excess of fructose and glucose, the production of Roc protein, which is necessary for colonization of the intestine, is blocked. Scientists have created a strain of bacteria in which the activity of the protein has not been suppressed and they have gained an advantage in reproduction with a diet high in carbohydrates.
Why sugar is bad for health
Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron bacteria specialize in the processing of long complex polysaccharides. They live in the colon, where glucose or fructose enters only in residual quantities, assimilated even in the small intestine. However, with the increase in the consumption of high-carbohydrate foods, simple sugars still began to influence the life of this bacterium. Thus, the consumption of sugar has the inevitable harm to health.
